Hi All,

I asked Kim if she would set-up a Diesel truck forum for each make, Ford, Dodge, Chevy, etc., and she said no problem as long as I can find people to use them.

Would you guys want to use these new forums?

I would be interested, question if we need a seperate board for each truck.I've had 3 chevy 6.2s and know em inside and out. I also have a dodge w/ the cummins in it. The cummins is a better engine, just wish it lived in my chevy

I have a friend changing the rear end on a school bus and needs some information. He also wants to increase the power of an International 466 Diesel. Where would be some good forums for him?

There is a company that sells all sorts of parts for the DT466's and 444E's to doll them up. Don't recall the name but have seen their ads in many truck stop papers, mostly those directed toward owner operators. I'll keep my eye out for the ad and forward the contact info if I see it. Can't miss the ad, "DT-466 / 444E" right at the top of it. Sorry can't be of more help.

There is already a very good one for the Cummins powered Dodge diesel - it's called the Turbo Diesel Register. I don't know about the Flower Stroke or the Duramush. Boy, I bet I can start a war with this!

Honestly, this is the only forum here that I visit, kinda general purpose, one size fits all. Thanks to the input given to me here, I was able to get the info I needed on the PSD's and ford trucks on a specific Ford & Powerstroke MB. Sorry, count me out on this one, just don't have the time to go to all the boards.

BTW, Larry G, what did you decide on for your running boards?

I went with Back Country tubular stainless steel. I like the stainless, my truck is solid Patriot Blue with chrome wheels - looks nice in a consertive kind o' way. I'm not the only one who thinks so, I guess, I catch people looking at it all the time - either that or shutting their car windows 'cause they can't talk on their cell phones with all that Cummins-powered racket!

Glad to hear you like the Cummins. No experience with them personally but everyone I know that has one is bragging about them. One local guy didn't like the dodge chassis so he did some heavy modifying and put it in an F450 chassis. I don't know what all he did to the engine but it sounds great and got the power to back up the sound too.

Did the running boards come with all stainless steel hardware to attach them? Reason I'm asking is I got a set of west coast mirrors for my big service truck, all stainless except for the mounting hardware. PO'ed me big time considering they cost nearly $400.

The hardware for the steps is carbon steel - it is out of sight, though, so it looks ok. Since my toy was new, I used a spray can of undercoat, precoated the brackets, and when I was done, I just went back and hit the bolt heads. I'll have to do it over though because my wife thinks the step is still too high and too close to the body (darn, right again) so I'll get somebody to make up some new L-shaped brackets out of light weight channel. I can understand why you aren't pleased about non-stainless brackets on a mirror, though. You'd think the mfr would care about the looks of his product down the road.

All of the fasteners I used when I put the truck together are SS where I could get away with it. Obviously the grade 8's on the suspension parts and such are zinc plated but anti-siezed. All those for the exterior that did not get pained or need to be removed for normal maintenance are SS.

Since I took the whole truck apart and re-built it to my likes, I treated all the parts before and after assembly. Areas of the frame that I could not get exposed, like the double rail sections, I treated with Coranado Rust Prep IV (rust converter). Following this, they were treated with a liberal coating of Rusfre brand penetrating rust preventing sealer then topped with a generous coating of Rusfre brand undercoating.

Most of the problems I see with vehicles and rust is lack of protection applied before assembly. I coat everything before it is assembled and also use rubber washers/gaskets between items such as the fiberglass sun visor and cab roof. This allows for the different materials to expand and contract with temp without allowing them to rub over eachother. Living in an area where I have to deal with acid rain, road salt, sulfur and so on, I got to know where rust starts and how to keep it from starting. Nice to see I'm not the only one who is not afraid to get crapped up doping things before they get put together. The short term mess is less of a problem to deal with when compared to the long term mess or rust.

Cummins, sounds great. No cell phone can replace the sweet sound of a good working diesel.
I am dreaming about one. Although I heard a lot of good things about 7.3L Ford. More in my price range too.
Any suggestions about other good diesel motors on the market???

I only know about the big three in light trucks. My Dad had a Ford a few years back, and that had an International diesel in it. That disappeared when Ford came out with the Powerstroke. The Chevy Duramax is made by Isuzu, but GM owns a big hunk of Isuzu and coerced them to lighten up their diesel for the light truck market. Hence the aluminum heads that I have heard they have had warpage problems with.

The Powerstroke is still the an International engine - Powerstroke name came with the Turbo I think.
