Can ya lubricate a ceiling fan motor? I have one that's starting to make some noise in motor. At soon as I turn it off noise goes away (even while blades are turning fast). It's not a vibration noise, it's coming from motor.

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack,

Be sure it's the motor. A failing variable speed controller can also cause the motor to make odd sounds...Al English

I agree with Mac; unless the fan is an antique or has some special meaning to you, it's probably not worth the money, time, and effort necessary to replace the motor.

Grease in bearings have probably dried up. You can dis-assemble and install new bearings or re-lube old ones by dis-assembly, BUT it is a job that is not worth the time and effort considering the price of the fans now days. Unless these are "real" expensive fans, most are throwaways. You do it or have it done, either way not worth it.

If im not mistaken you can get to the motor pretty easy if you can lube it with NEVERSEIZE.
That will make the noise go away. Chris
