This should be an easy question for somebody.

Why is the fencing at the local supply store, sold in 330 ft. rolls?
Why not 300, 200 or 400?
What is so signaficant about 330?
Does it have anything to do with an acre of land?

Another point is that the proper spacing for fence posts is 1 rod (16 1/2 feet). That translates to 20 posts per roll of wire.

Old timers would measure lenght in Rods and Furlongs.

1 Furlong = 40 Rods
1 Rod = 16.5 Feet

Fencing has always been sold in 20 Rod rolls.
16.5 Feet x 20 Rods = 330ft.

That's why you buy a 330ft. roll of fence at your local farm supply store.

To carry this a little farther, 330' is 1/16 of a mile and since most of the US was surveyed with the standard sections method. A section of land is a mile on a side and is 640 acres. A quarter secton - 160 acres - is 1/2 mile - ( 2640' ) - on a side. A quarter of a quarter section is40 acres and 1/4 mile on a side -1320' . If you continue on a square piece of land of 5 acres would be 330' on a side. This would be fine if land surveys were perfect and if the land was flat and - - - . You get the idea.

I think you all might have missed the point that in countries like here in Australia we went metric. (Why I don't know). 330 Feet is 100 metres and that is how we buy our wire. Maybe the US is metric by stealth, you are getting it in 100 metre rolls with a different label. After all most of our sumps hold 4.54609 litres of oil and we are not allowed to call it a 1 gallon. Keep imperial and don't let them convert you.
