I'm looking to buy a scaler for rust/paint removal for parts I can't sand blast as well as an air tool to use wire brushes in instead of using my cordless drill. Any advise on brand, type of tool, and where to purchase would be much appreciated. Seems like everytime I get an a bright idea to buy something on the spur of the moment, about a week later I read a post that I should have read BEFORE I bought it. Thanks again for all your help.

Northern has a good selection of air tools, both inexpensive (Home use) and professional quality.
I have a Northern air powered needle scaler (a cheapie) that works quite well. If you get a budget model, keep it well lubricated, it makes a world of difference. I would reccomend it for home or occasional use, but if you are looking to use it everyday to make a living, buy a good professional model instead.
As for wire wheels, I use a 4" electric grinder with a wheel on it. Works just fine.

I'll go along with what Dave said and add that if you are looking to save money and still get a decent air tool, take a look at the Harbor Freight "Professional" branded ones. The standard ones are so-so but the ones labled "professional" are well worth the money. If you are really looking for quality, I have a speedair brand needle gun from Grainger that is well built and is holding up well under heavy use. I just got a new Snap-On IM6100 1/2" impact gun that I love. Many other snappy air tools have served me well for lots of years with little more than a cleaning once in a while and oil each and every day. Use only quality air tool oil or any industrial strait 10 weight oil that has a moisture displacer or rust inhibitor additive in it. Never use a penetrating oil such as WD-40 or PB Blaster. While these will displace moisture and prevent rust, they are also corrosive to aluminum. Some brands of penetrating oils also contain additives that aid in cutting which is opposite of lubricating properties you need.
