Just bought a winch to put on my trailer to help load those tractors in need of a serious tuneup and was looking for tips on how & where to mount.High, low etc and best way to run power, off the vehicle, seperate battery etc. Thanks in advance.

Have mine mounted high on the goose neck, pulls the tractor UP the beavertail instead of against it, has worked real well and has it's own battery. Kind of depends on what type of trailer you use.

I have mine mounted on 2" receiver that can be placed on the trailor, rear or front of truck. i always wanted the connectors (grainger has them for electric lift truck connections) but i use a portable battery pack. once i forgot the battery pack and ended up pulling a tractor onto my trailor using strap binders. that turned a ten minute job into a hard two hours worth of work. boy, did i want those in place connectors that night! also pick up a single or double pulley block with side hindge plates (northern has cheap ones) a few short nylon slings (to connect to tractors without hurting paint) come in handy. and sooner or later you'll need gloves (when the cable becomes frayed)

I have a 8000 lb Ramsey mounted at deck level on front of my trailer. Works very well, was concerned about cable dragging on edge of deck, but with cable hooked to tractor front axle it has never been a problem. I use a commercial type jumper cable set up [available at Northern or NAPA] that plugs into a connector mounted on front bumper, works good But would be nice to have a rear connection. Oh well maybe on my new truck.

I bought a Ramsay 4500# Quick-Tatch winch. It plugs into a standard 2" hitch receiver. Handiest dang thing since the opposable thumb. I have hitch receivers front and rear on my truck, one that pins to the drawbar on the tractor, and one on the tongue of my flatbed trailer. I ran pigtails and quick-connects out the front and back of the truck, and off the back of the tractor.

On the trailer, mine is mounted with the fairlead about even with deck level. So far, that's worked just ducky for me. Only thing I need to do is make a hawse-guide that will slip in the center stake pocket on the back so the cable doesn't drag over the edge of the trailer on long pulls.
