my air compressor builds up to about 30 lbs and then starts slowing down and by 40 lbs it has stopped the motor completely. I have had the motor rebuilt. It is a Sanborn 5 hp 60gal. single stage. any ideas???

What voltage is at the motor starter without the compressor running, at 5 psi & when the stall occurs. If voltage isn't within 10% of the motor nameplate, she won't work worth diddly.

Could be a stuck check valve, causing the pump to have to fight full tank pressure all the time.

Let the compressor come up to the point where it slows the motor down and stalls it. Then pull the belt off quickly and try spinning the compressor pulley by hand. See if the compressor feels rough or really tight. We lost one of the Sanborn compressors on the farm when the connecting rod seized on the crank...with a full crankcase of oil.

When did this start?
All of a sudden, or over time, or never worked right?
