Well, I got some good info on here the other day, so I'll run this one by ya. I've decided the a/c d/c is a must after response here, plus talking to one of the local tool/ rod supply stores, but having somewhat limited funds and seeing that Lincoln and Hobart are pretty much in the same ball park price-wise, does anyone have a preference, and why ? The Miller is nice, but beyond the budget ! Thanks for any advice , Ron

If you are on a tight budget (like me!) look at your local garage sales and flyer ads (easy ads, photo ads, etc.) and classifieds. I found a new century (not the best but has worked great for me)ac 230/dc 140 welder with gloves, helmet, rod and chip hammer at an estate sale for 175.00. I have seen better deals since I bought it. Take your time, look around now that you know what you want. Good luck and get a copy of "New Lessons in Welding" from lincoln it's really cheap (I think it was 3.00 + shipping) and the best investment you can make, full of great info and tips.

Rick, Sounds like you got an Century Tri- Star welder, I had one of those at one time I really liked it but somebody with light fingers liked it better than me. I paid over $300.00 for it 10 - 12 years ago. you got a good deal. Dave F.

Thanks guys for the input. We're workin' with those 63 cent dollars up here in Canada, but think I'll go back for a long 2nd look at the 2 of them. Also have to check the local buy and sell paper. Thanks, Ron

There are mail order companies that sell welders. Many offer free shipping. Some of them sell on e-bay (do a search for "welding" and "welder" and you'll come across a few there). Reasonable prices I think.

The e-bay "prices" (if you could call them that) are baiting folks who don't know that the very same company will sell the unit cheaper than the bids go sometimes. Go figure...

Good luck.

Just bought a Miller XL AC/DC 225Amp Thunderbolt last week for $390.00 in the Philadelphia,Pa. area. (including tax).

Don't know what prices you've been getting, thought this might help.
