It has taken a while to recover from John Deere's dismal mismanagement of HOMELITE. It now looks like the new owner is starting to get parts shipped (to my distributor and they inturn are filling my backorders). Thankfuly I have a good supply of new & good used parts for the saws and trimmers sold in the last 25 years.

My neighbor has a 2600 Homelite trimmer #20537 8H0770204 that will start and run as long as the choke is closed for app 4-5 seconds then stall. after that the spark plug is soaked with gas and will not start. Does anyone have any ideas such as carb settings etc. that I can check they would be very much appreciated?

Thank You! Keith Greenwood

Keith: I believe you mean the 260 not 2600 the 260 has a UT number 20537. You might try and remove the muffler and check for dirt dobber nest. Then check the metal screen inside the muffler and clean if dirty..These screens get very clogged especially if someone uses a lot more oil than is called for in the fuel.
If you happen to need the carb. The part no. is a98502 it is a Walbro (HDC-80). The Repair kit is 98014 and you should also buy the check valve 98489.
When trying to start after rebuilding turn needle valves in all the way (clockwise) then turn out one turn and start from there..Hope this helps: Roe

I have a Homelite model 450 chain saw and I need a muffler. The part number is A12411-1D UT # 101354.
The saw is about 23 years old but runs great.

IIRC, it's TechTronics, parent company of Ryobi.

Ryobi (the Power tools not the Lawn & garden Ryobi) moved the Trimmer plant back to South Carolina from Chihuahua Mexico in February.

You are right , I should have said the company that owns Ryobi .

The company I work for used to machine parts for John Deere Consumer Products ( Homelite ) . We made parts for the generators and demolition saws . We made parts for John Deere ( Yellow ) , Homelite ( Red ) and Atlas Copco ( Butterscotch Yellow ) . The only difference was the color .

Deer had plants in Gastonia ,NC , Clover, SC , and Greer , SC that we did work for . We made parts for over 1/4 million generators in preperation for Y2K ! I hear that JD still has lots ands lots of generator parts still unused .

Deere built a plant in Mexico a few years ago to build the string trimmers and blowers . They closed the Gastonia plant ( about 900 employees if I remember right ) soon after that . The Clover plant soon followed ( around 100-200 or so employees ) .

Greer is the last to go . They are machining cylinders and pistons for the plant in Mexico . Greer will likely close down in a month or two .

I have been to all of the plants many times and knew a lot of good people there . John Deere has a good program to help these folks out . I just hate to see these people loose their jobs .

Don't blame NAFTA though . Blame the greedy people at Deere who make the decisions .
