Has anyone out there converted a mech winch to hyd using a powersteering pump. I have a elec now but have a mech to and would like to use it but my truck is an automatic. I do have a couple of hyd motors but not to sure the power steering pump would work. Thanks in advance.

if you have a mech winch and your truck is 4x4 have you thought about pto drive all you need is a gear box ( usually found on old wreckers etc.) and a shaft to drive the winch from it the power is un believable you'll snap cables if your not careful good luck

Have used a power steering pump in a pinch for a pick up truck snow plow. Had less PSI than the plow pump. I think I'd try a old plow pump. When I took out the pump I'd grab the valves for the plow. The one that angles the plow back & forth would make your hydro motor go forward/reverse. How well will it work???? LOTSA variables... Hydro motor GPM/psi requirements. Torque load.... Good idea though. My eletric winch really puts a strain on the alternator/battery with prolonged use. Big buck winches come with th option to hook into vehicle power steering pumps as an option but then they come set up for the GPM/PSI of the vehicle power steering pump to be used on. Good luck!!!
