I need a new toolbox for my truck. Looking at the aluminum diamond plate jobbies. Northern Tool has a couple in the $200-$250 range. Anybody tried them?

Main thing I need is something that is lockable and WATERTIGHT! My old plastic box leaks like a seive. I'd also prefer one that sits on the floor of the bed rather than an over-the-rail type, due to the rails/headache rack I've got one it.

It's a full size '89 Chevy 1-ton, BTW.

I work out of my truck for the past 24 years. I started off with the metal one which goes accross the box , behind the cab. Next I went with the low profile boxes which go the full lenth of the truck. I think the ferfect ones for me would be the one that goes across the back of the cab , along with two shorter low profile side boxes. And the best quality at that. This will be what my next boxes will be.

Hey, I've got just what you are looking for on my flat bed. Doesn't sit on the rails either, ((good thing, for a flat bed..... )) . I got it at Lowe's. It was $180. I opened an account with Lowe's and they took 10% off of that. So, I only paid $162 + tax. Pay off the bill for the next month early, and there will be no interest either. Good deal. It was a Delta brand. It is water tight and lockable. If you don't like the lock on it, you can always put an aftermarket padlock style on these things with ease as well.

Before I changed my truck box to a flat bed, I got the deep box, rail supported one from Home Depot, and I paid about $185 for that. It was a Husky brand. Sold it to a buddy for $175. Had it on my truck for about a year, so I think I got $10 worth of use out of it.

I've seen the same brand that I have now, at other stores for well over $200. If you can buy local, do it as you will save on shipping as well.

I plan to re-fit my truck with a flatbed, hopefully this summer. I'm contemplating building in a recessed well in the front for the box to sit in, which is another reason I don't want a rail mount.

I don't think we have Lowes here in Maine, and if we do, it's a long dang ride to the nearest one. Several folks have recommended the Delta, I'll look around and see who carrys them up here.

Here is a link for the box I have. Only difference is this is a different, brand, but it looks the same as my Delta. Aluminum diamond tread as well. They raised the price a bit as well. If you go to the Lowes site and enter your zip code it will tell you where your closest one is.

I have a set up in the bed of my half ton full size Chevy that actually came from my old S-10 pickup, problem is that it is two small, leaks and is inside the cap. The next go around will be one I build myself though. I want it big enough for me to fit into it and have plenty of room otherwise.
