Although not a vintage machine, I have read the postings here and feel that there are some wise folks out there who may have some insight into my tractor problem.

Yesterday, after having operating for an hour with no apparent problems, my Case 1390 Tractor(independent PTO) stuck in second gear. The tractor will operate normally and runs well. I am able to dis-engage the transmission with the clutch pedal, no problem there. Upon engaging the clutch, it takes off in second gear as if there were no apparent change in operation. However, cannot move the gear shift lever out of the 2nd gear slot. It's just stuck and no amount of reasonable force will free it.

This machine has the independent PTO, and for what it's worth, it engages and dis-engages without a problem. Also able to chagne the PTO-ranges with no problem.
Suggestions??? Please help out if you have any ideas.

When my Farmall B did that, It turned out to be a busted detent spring that allowed the detent ball to jam the shift rail in one position. In my case it was first gear. Had to take the top cover off the transmission, which was no big deal on the "B".
