I was wondering are the companion wrenches and sockets dependable. Did anyone have any wrenches break? These are sold at sears. I was looking at the 85 piece automotive set.

Spend the little extra, buy the Craftsman and they're guaranteed for life. They're no SnapOn, but good enough for most of what you can dish-out.

I've had some Companion hand tools for years that have worked well for light- and medium-duty jobs. Companion disappeared for quite a few years. Now it's back and mostly made in China. I've bought some when they were on sale really cheap, but I consider them throwaways if they have problems. I wouldn't make them my top-drawer tools, but they're as good as the other China stuff for under the seat of the pickup, etc. As Bill already noted, be wary of electrical tools with the Companion name. You can probably find equivalent stuff cheaper elsewhere.
