Has anyone had any experience with JET brand power tools. I just bought a drill press, and was impressed eith the quality of workmanship. However, I have never heard of the brand name. Thank You

I think they are a good value and that's what it is all about. I kind of chuckle when I see these brand name followers drop a chunk of change for something they think is built in the US when at most it was painted or labeled in the US. Import stuff isn't always that bad - some is, some isn't. I remember when built in Japan was considered cheap stuff and now what about their quality?? I think the same will happen with China, etc....

For safty I added a light and a foot switch to my drill press, when the light is on the foot switch is active.

Hi Dusty,
I am in the process of rebuilding an old Delta floor model drill press. I think that I want to replace the original on/off switch with a magnetic switch so if the power goes off and then comes back on, I can't have inadvertently left the drill press powered. I like your idea about a foot switch. Would you please provide more details, as I have not gotten to the stage of obtaining and wiring in the mag switch. What is your opinion on "upgrading to the mag switch. THANKS

Well I could be wrong, but I would bet that Jet drill presses are the same Chineese or Tiawan drill presses that everyone seems to be selling with their own color of paint. they are OK machines, will last a good while, and are a good value. The main trouble I have with them, and I have one, is that it would be a better machine if it went a bit slower. There are a couple of ways to do this too. E mail me or post a question here if you want to know how to do it.

I should have added that on this list or another someone said that they consider imported tools as "kits" and to some extent I agree. If you take it apart and lube, adjust, improve, clean, and in general add the time and effort that is missing you can go a long way to bringing them up to standard.

Jet makes some good, functional tools, and has for a number of years. They are owned by Wilton Tool Co. Their stuff is highly "useable". However, tool snobs (the "only the best for me" boys) might find them "less than satisfactory". Anyway, they are right there with Delta in todays market. Enjoy your drill press. You won't be sorry!

Try looking at their web site:

I agree with Al. I have had a Jet grinder for more than 15 years and it gets lots of use in the summer sharpening mower blades. No problems with mine.

Hi Sam,

I go to considerable effort to buy tools and equipment made in this country. A Jet grinder is the only item in my shop that is not domestic. When I was equipping my business, Jet was the only source with the size, type, power, and RPM grinder I wanted. So, I bought it. It works well, has been used a lot, and has never needed servicing. Jet is not a top of the manufacturer(or distributor?), but they are a good value for their cost. I see Jet equipment as being compare to the position Makita holds in the hand help power tool market. Based on my own experience, and what I have seen, I can't say anything bad about JET...Al English
