My Ford Dorset(England) diesel workshop manual calls for hylomar PL32/M in certain places when reassembling the engine. This is a Lister engine with the Ford provided block. I can't find hylomar in Loctite's current catalog. Can anyone help?

I called Loctite, and they said Permatex sells it, and that Loctite and Permatex are now separate companies. The hylomar is made under license from Rolls Royce.

In Rolls Royce jet engines there are points which have precision, metal to metal joints that use no gaskets. In a perfect world these joints wouldn't leak. However, we all know that tradition dictates all British machinery shall leak. Hylomar was developed to seal these ungasketed metal to metal joints. Used as directed it is an excellent product..Al English

Hylomar is not a Loctite product, it is made by Wm Canning Co, I believe in England. I don't know if they have a website or not. It should be readily available in England and Europe, I know there is a distributor in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Hi big Fred,

Ok I'll bite, what is hylomar? I assume a sealent of some kind? Can it be compared to a known Loctite product?

It's a family of products in the same way Loctite is. Like Dave says, it's a non-hardening, non-curing sealant. Never used it myself, it's used in some aviation and aerospace applications. I would imagine since it was developed in England, you would find a whole mess of it on them Brand-X Airbus planes. You can get a little bit of info on it as well as pricing from the link below.

I bought a tube of this stuff under Permatex brand. at advance auto supply, its a non harding gasket sealer, I think it lets to disassmble parts with out tearing up the gaskets, seems to work ok. look like a brussian blue gel. Dave F.
