I have the large tanks of acetylene and oxygen with Harris torch outfit.
My settings are 7/40 but when I cut metal I don't get a clean cut. The melted metal accuumlates on the side of the cut which makes a ugly cut. Have to grind the metal off. Can someone help as I'm new at this trade. Sometimes the cut will close up with melted metal. Any books or website that can explain the settings would be helpful. I normally cut 3/8 and thinner metal. Thanks. Wayne

are you fully depressing the oxy lever after preheating ? i have found some inexpeienced people don't depress the oxy lever all the way and there fore don't get the full amount of blow from the set oxy pressure . this will in turn will cause the problems described above .

Along with the advice of T bone, try 7 and 50 for your settings. The extra oxygen should help to blow the cuttings out of the way. For heating I run about a 3 to 1 ratio- 7 and 20+, but for cutting I usually run about 7 and 50. But nothing beats a clean tip.

Hi Wayne,

click on the below topic as I just finished writing about cleaning a cutting tip. Your tip is very dirty and this will explain how to clean it.
