What is the best fluid to use in a hobbiest-type (non heated or agitated) parts washer? I've been using fuel oil but can't stand the odor. I hear water-base is the least dangerous but doesn't work very well. Cost is somewhat of a factor. What's your experience? Roger V.

Diesel works pretty well, not too flammable and cheap.

I thought I'd be a good citizen and try one of the soy based solvents (Soy Gold). Virtually no odor and easy on the hands, but I have to admit, it really doesn't seem to cut the grease like good old mineral spirits. I'll probably get a bucket to keep outside (to cut down on the odor) and put mineral spirits in it for a "pre-soak" before finishing with the biodegradeable solvents. The low odor mineral spirits sounds appealing, but mighty expensive where I live.

I use REGULAR AGITENE #M2062. It works well but is expensive. $55/5gal. Has a flash of 105deg. low oder & easy on the hands. Comes down to how much you want to spend.
