Hi Shawn,

I just bought a Hobart 235AC Thursday. I have to change the cord so it will fit the 50 amp/220 outlet I am using.

Thickness of the metal really doesn't matter. With the 235, you should be able to weld stuff 2 inches thick, just not in one pass. You first take the two pieces you want to join and grind the edges so they come together like a valley. Then run a bead on the bottom of the valley. Clean off the slag and run another bead. Keep cleaning and running beads until the valley is filled.

235 amps should be able to weld 1/4 inch steel in one pass. I am not sure about the minimum-maybe 20 gauge.

I will try to post back here tomorrow. I should have it going by then.

Jeff
