I am looking to purchase a finish nailer to put cedar siding on an addition on my house. Can anyone out there recommend a certain brand and why? I am trying to keep the cost down as this will only be used as a hobbyist and not everyday.

Thanks!
Craig

Hi Craig,

Are you sure you want a finish nailer? The standard nail for applying cedar siding is a 5d full round head, stainless steel, ring shank siding nail. They are not "finish" nails as such. I can't say that I have seen a nailer for them.

My finish nailer is a Bostitch that only handles extremely clipped head straight nails...and I can't even get ss nails for it.

I agree with Dave...decide on the nails you want to use and then investigate a nailer for them.

Get a Paslode 3250-f16, shoots up to a 2 1/2" finish nail, you can get a new one on e-bay fairly cheap or any of the tool catalogs. A good gun that will last a long time and uses very inexpensive nails. If you ever have a problem parts are also easy to come by.

Hi Craig,
I bought a heavy duty air nailer that shoots a # 14 nail, but will shoot smaller also. #14 is about the size of a 16 penny nail. I was remodeling my home at the time, but when finished haven't used the gun again. It's been a couple of years. I paid about $300.00 for it. A finish nailer will probably be some less expensive. For light work with cedar, check out electric guns. Also, you may just want to rent a gun for limited use.I'm at work and can't remember my brand but it is a commercial grade. Good luck.
