Got into the mood to clean the top of my table saw yesterday morning. Used a wire brush in my drill and worked slowly back and forth for about 45 minutes. It cleaned up reall good but there were still some spots that looked pitted so I tried a small piece of emery cloth and it worked so well that I put a piece in my palm sander and went aboard it. A couple of sheet changes later it looked and felt almost as good as new. Put two coats of butcher's wax on and it really looked great. Cut a piece of plywood and it slipped across the table like it was on rollers. Now I need to go aboard my plainer, drill press, etc. Hope this helps someone, or if there are any other solutions, I'm all ears.

I have used "Teflon spray" also ZEP works well for me. But only as a preservative coating. Clean if off before use.

Careful using any type of oil. It can contaminate any fine woods, and ruin the ability to finish it properly.

If ya cover yer table with an ordinary cotton bath towel when you're not using it, it will keep the humidity from rusting the surface.

Otherwise, dust and whatnot will settle on it, and hold the moisture and rust it, even through the wax eventually.

A little oil on that towell won't hurt either. And don't let the family cat sleep on it either!

Just sprinkle the top with sawdust if you ain't going to use it for a few days, that helps also. Where do you get butcher's wax?

Home Depot carries butcher's wax.

Whenever I do a really good job of cleaning and waxing my table saw top I have to be careful not to push wood through it as hard as I was--it goes too fast!
