I`m wanting to purchase a new washer but was wanting to get some opinions on the different brands. I have had 3 Craftsman in the last 2 years and haven`t had very good luck with them. I would like one not less than 3000 psi and with the seperate tank for soap.It will mainly be used for washing vehicles and my tractor and 3 pt equipment.Any thoughts as far as the Briggs or Honda engine? Thank you much,Terry

Our school purchased a Cub Cadet brand of pressure washer. Has a 6 Horse Tecumseh on it... Very quiet and not even a complaint out of it yet....Starts on first crank nearly every time. It is a 2500psi version and takes rust, paint, and grease off of each tractor that comes into our shop. Good luck choosing.

Have a 5.5 hp Honda on a pump rated at 2200 psi and 3 gpm. I would recommend not going much smaller than this. Mine is very adequate. Love the Honda. Great little engine. Most home units are built with downstream soap injection which means that soap spray is at low pressure. Wish that the soap could be applied under pressure. Down side of this is that soaps/chemicals running through pump would damage it.

Home Depot has wands that have the soap suction connection in the wand itself so you can apply any soap material (along with the water) under pressure without it going through the pump. I have one of 'em. Made by DeVilbiss, I think.

Been browsing at NorthernTool.com yet? They have a pretty good collection to look over. They also sell the components so you can pretty much build your own if you want.

I guess the real hot setup is a Honda Industrial Grade engine with a CAT pump.

I agree the old style B&S are junk throwaways, and the Honda is great. I have a bunch of B&S Vanguards that I consider on a par with Honda. Same design, less money.

Can't comment of pressure washers since I don't own one but the Honda engine is far superior to the BS. I had a new chipper with an 8 horse BS on it that ran a total of forty minutes before locking up due to casting chips in the bearings. The BS engine has no crank main bearings, relying on the case to support it. Bad design, lousy execution! The dealer took it back in trade on another machine with a Honda. No comparison!
My experience,
Pete
