I need a bedliner for my pickup. The regular kind is really slippery, I am told. I have heard that there is a spray-on liner that is not so slippery and is tuff. I noticed in my latest Northern Tool book(That would be this week's edition) that they offer a paint-on do-it-yourself liner. I think it was about 50 bucks. Has anyone tried this? Does it look good and does it hold up? Thanks.

If you can manage to get polyurethane exterior
construction adhesive in gallon cans, use that. My buddy applied a thin coat first on the floor pan of his truck. Then he did a overlapping circle
pattern over that with a toothed trowel. Total thickness 1/8in. Looks good and just as tough. It comes in one color beige of course. Looks good and finishes tough. If you don't want to improvise, Herculiner
makes it for truck beds but you need moocho $$$.

I sometimes wonder why people use bed liners. I have a 90 Ford Ranger with 200,000+ miles on it. It had a bed liner when I bought it. Now that its ready for the bone yard and the rest of the truck is dented and rusty I have a bed that looks brand new. Is this so it will look better in the junkyard?

I'd suggest using POR 15, stuff is hard as a rock, and then use a rubber mat over it.

I used POR 15 in my 5 yard dump truck, really
tough-tough stuff.

You might be happier if you put a rubber mat over whatever spray-on you choose. They'll take a lot of abuse and protect the spray coating!

I recently bought a new truck and immediatly had the Rhino spray system applied.Hated to part with the money, but I carry a lot of salt water fish, crabs etc., this Rhino stuff is thick, tough, and waterproof as a crabs a**, There is no bedliner, mat, or DIY spray on system, that can compare, and I've tried them all.I don't work for the company or hold stock in them, but I do recommend it to anyone who asks.

I'll be interested to watch how it holds up. My inlaws are commercial watermen as well. They had a truck bed sprayed a number of years ago. For a long time, he had the only Toyota that didn't have a bed that was rusty. His looked much better then mine.

But then it finally got through via the underside, and the truck bed exploded with rust. All he's got now is a liner with bits of fender hanging off it.

At this point, my Toyota without a liner is in far better shape then his is.

I've got a Penda SR (Skid Resistant) bed liner in My truck. Stuff will blow out before it slides around on that bed liner. The spary-on liners are so expensive.... and as others have said... subject to thin spots....

I've never used the DIY kits.

I bought a truck with a sprayed in bedliner. It's alright, but I wouldn't pay to have one done. I've already scuffed mine just pulling a piece of 1.5" pipe out the back. Anything heavy dropped in the bed will still bend it.

The hard ones are slick, but they distribute the shock over a broader area. Less likely to dent the metal underneath. I had one with a piece of rubber on top to stop the sliding.

My last truck just had the rubber mat for 10 years. It served me well. Whatever you get, if it will come out, take it out and clean under it at least once a year.

Steve, through the last 50 years I've discovered that you really do get what you pay for. The commerical spray in liners are great, and you pay for that. Don't expect the same quality from the do-it-yourself kits.

I paid over $400.00 for the sprayed urethane liner. Supposed to be 1/4" thick in the bottom. First time I used it, part of the bottom peeled up when snagged and it was 1/16" thick. They sprayed again. Still not durable coating. I put drop-in over it. Probably will not have the usual rust under the drop-in. I think I would use the home applied coating and then put the drop-in over that.
