What's the best way to size a rebushed con rod? I was thinking an adjustable hand reamer, a thousand at a time, but I havn't tried one on bronze. Any ideas before I buy one? Any ideas at all? Please don't tell me to take it to a machine shop. Help! Thanks;Mike

I resized my con rod for my air compressor about a year ago. What I did was mill off about .015" from the matting surfaces of the cap and rod. I then torqued them together and bored the hole round on my mill using a boring head. Find a retired machinist who has some equipment they are usually happy to do this sort of work for a nominal fee. Mike, How much material do you need to remove? Are you starting with a round hole or is it egg shaped? An abrasive method such as lapping, using a hone or even wrapping emory around a drill rod can probably get you where you want to be dimensionally, primary concern would be getting abrasive embedded into the bronze and therefore destroying it. Trying to avoid the cost of a reamer, I'de probably attach the connecting rod to the face plate on a lathe and use a boring bar to open the bushing. - Slughammer
