I have inherited a Generac pressure washer 1500 psi at 2 gpm. It has absolutely no pressure and when I took the pump apart I could find nothing that looke bad. Could this be a simple problem that I could fix or is it time to look for a new pump.

I'm assuming here that you are new to pressure washers.

Is the NOZZLE on the wand working properly? It sounds like you have the nozzle in the 'bypass' position, which is used to 'unload' the pump for starting the engine.

The wand tip has an orfice that is actually where the pressure is generated, by the pump working to force water through a small opening at the wand tip.

The wand on my generac has a push-pull mechanism in the tip that will allow water to bypass the orfice.. this is needed to start the motor.

After the motor is warmed up, you move the end of the wand to the 'wash' position and away you go.

With just a garden hose hooked up to your washer, experiment (push-pull)on the the end of the wand. One position should squirt a very thin directed stream, the other will simply allow water to gush out with no 'direction'.

The other thing that's built into the wand tip, is a twist motion, that controls a little spreader plate that turns the stream from a 'needle' to a stream. Don't twist when you have high pressure coming out, it tends to damage the O-rings.

IMPORTANT STUFF READ THIS. (assuming no manual?)

Here's a quick SAFETY WARNING. NEVER direct the stream at yourself (or anyone else).. and NEVER put your finger (or anything else) over the tip.

It will blow water right into your tissues. This usually results in surgery and amputation/removal of the affected area !

Most of these units will have a sticker with a phone number you can call to get manuals. I'd guess there's a GENERAC site out on the web too.

Hope this helps.
