Howdy folks. I've seen the Gator Grip on TV, and you probably have too. It's that socket with some pins and is suppose to adjust itself to fit any bolt or other hardware. It looks like a joke to me. Have any of you used these, and what do you think?

I have lots of the high priced stuff....and a Gator Grip. Wife gave it to me for Christmas. First time I used it, I broke it. Got it replaced free, (goody) and gave it back to the wife for her kitchen drawer. Works fine for stuff she messes with..just my two cents....Greg

Thank God for goobers like you that pay $50. for a wrench that can be bought anywhere else for $5. that way you don't have enough money left to pay $1000. for a $200. tractor

Actually, if you have a catalog and price list to use as a value guide, you can get some great deals on new and barely used Snap-On stuff on Ebay! I've bought for $500 what was well over $2000 in Snap-On tools. Most, if not all only show light wear. Of course, when I need something new, dad will use his employee discount and get it for me. You just have to use common sense in deciding what a used tool is worth. Some that are sold as damaged can be turned in for new!

At the risk of being called names:
I bought one of those GG sockets and a 3" or so little ratchet and keep it as an EMERGENCY first line of defence on 1 tractor. It is not a REAL socket and WILL NOT remove head bolts, ect.
But not bad for the ocassional loose nut.I see it as a novelty. Also I work on a lot of SAE & Metric stuff and while frustrating, the Metwrenches are handy at times. True they are not as good as real tools, but ok for easy jobs. I think I will keep all my other tools.

I bought one of the Gator Grip sockets from Big Lots for $4.99 and it works ok for some small jobs but I would hate for that to be my only tool but I keep one on the tractor in the field for some of the quick adjustments.

Saw an ad on tv for two strap wrenches and the socket for $20 plus shipping. If I see it again I'll post the 800 # if anyone's interested. As stated below I don't think it's going to be the only socket you'll ever need but might be good once in awhile.

We needed one at work because the special nuts on a clamp system were all chewed to sh$$. Picture those dopey GM locking wire hub caps and thats the general idea. It worked well, so I can vouch for the wing nut and special use part of a Gator Grip. I agree that it cannot put out a lot of torque.
P.S. I have a friend who likes his Metwrenches, and I like my Gearwrenches. They are not going to replace your entire socket set, but slipped under the passenger seat, they have saved my bacon several times!

A guy at work has one, Its right up there with Metwrench. It'll work but not worth poo-poo when clearence is tight or if you have to twist more than finger tight.

Ben

I totally agree. I have used metwrench since 92 & i don't regret of buying such item. Almost 90% of task i perform on my vehicles are with this tools. The only piece that broke was the rachet and it was my fault. I put too much torqe on it. I would like to know if anyone has the address to mail it. They are life time garrantee.

I think they would be good as a helper with no thumbs except for the one in his a$$, I think they might help in some cases but not all. I would recomend you still keep your good tool set.
