Hi All,

Last year I changed my hydraulic oil in my IH340 loader/hoe as it contained alot of water. I drained it into two 5gal buckets and put a plastic garbage bag over the bucket until I could take it to the recycler. It's been setting for alittle over a year and I forgot to buy HyTran (IH hydraulic oil) the last time I was in town and I broke a hydraulic hose on the hoe.

I replaced the hose and needed some oil so I looked at the used stuff. The water had seperated out to the bottom so I screened the oil thru a coffee filter and it looked great, nice and clean, so I put in 3gallons in the tractor.

Out of 5gal I got 4.5gal of useable oil. The coffee filter was also clean so the oil hadn't been in very long when I bought the tractor. The tractor sees about 50hrs of use a year so I don't think it'll hurt a thing. I'm keeping the other bucket!

T-Bone -
Thanks for the good idea. I never thought to do this with my MF 50c TLB. I will be replacing some spool seals soon so this should save me a couple a bucks. Thanks again!

It works even easier if you set the bucket out to freeze the water after it settles out.

I'm pretty sure T_Bone would have to set the bucket IN (the freezer) to get frozen water, but that's a good idea.

T_Bone that is a good idea I will have to use it. I have a welding gas question to I whose wondering if using 75%argon/25%Co2 mix will work ok for Tig welding steel? Will 75%helium/25%argon Mix be ok for welding steel with MIG and TIG process? I'm saving to buy a Lincoln TIG machine and I have 75%argon/25%Co2 bottle and just wondering what I can do with it I dont plan on using the MIG machine much after buying the TIG and I will knead to buy a gas bottle for welding AL sow I think the 75%helium/25%argon mix will be it do I have the right Idea for the gases thanks Rod MI

Hi Rod,

Sure 75He/25Ar will work for all metals just alittle more expensive to use. If your not using too much, a cylinder or less a year, then too me it's cheaper as I only have to have one cylinder on hand.

Have you checked to see if your Mig machine is a CC welding machine? If it is you can scratch start Tig weld with it! If your thinking lots of Tig AL then a seperate welding unit would be more suitable. Something to ponder.

T_Bone what about 75%argon/25%Co2 will that work for TIG on steel sorry for bothering you but this gas thing kind of has me confused if note I will see if they will trade for a helium mixed bottle and my MIG I dont think it is a CC machine it only is a 80Amp machine any was thanks Rod MI

Hi T-Bone I've done the same thing, and used a paint filter that fits a 5 gal. pail, also with good results. I think the secret is letting it set for a while to let the "Bad" settle to the bottom----- Jim
