This saw has been in a fire..my son found it in an old building, All the aluminum parts have burnt off...the motor looks like maybe a 3HP..it has 3 belts on the pulley..it's all cast iron..each cast iron part has a number on it..#LTA400 thru LTA 420...the hand wheels are 8" in diameter..the arbor is 5/8..has 2 ball bearings that hold the arbor..The rip fence guide bars are 1½" in diameter and 4 ft.long...the rip fence and miter gauge are missing...Can't tell if the paint was dark green or grey...(maybe dark blue)...I would like to repair this saw if I can find out more about it !! Can any one help me? Thanks....Rod.

Hi,

Yep, sounds like a delta unisaw. And pretty old. With casting numbers consisting of 3 letters, then 3 numbers, probably at least 20 to 30 years old. Parts from them are expensive, but generally available for the unisaw.

They have a 800 number, and can verify the approximate age of the saw on those casting numbers. They can also supply an exploded parts diagram of the saw which will help to identify missing parts. Also, join Yahoo and do a search for a GROUP (there are groups, clubs, all sorts of wierd things) called oldwwmachines, uh, I think, if you're interested I'll check my bookmarks later, some experts on there can tell you EXACTLY what you need to know about this saw, and some will have parts for it MUCH cheaper than a dealer. I got a 50 year old obsolete bull gear for the transmission of my wood/metal delta bandsaw there for $50, with the shaft, bearings, keepers, EVERYTHING. Had been checking with delta dealers for NOS for some 9 years. These guys solved the problem in 6 months!

Rod: This could be a number of different machines. I would be very careful about spending money on it until I found if the tables were still true, and the shafts are not bent. I have known people who have bought heavy duty machines that had been in buildings that burned, most did not have the heat damage that your tool has seen. Only later did they find slightly warped tables, burned motor coils, untrue shafts. you may find a better deal at auction or used tool supply. here are some prices to consider (good fence $250-$500, motor $300 bearings $75, matched belts $30, miter gauge $100. just a sample of what you could be dealing with) don't get me wrong I'm all for reworking old machines, done several myself. just a heads up- good luck-- Greg

It sounds like it may be a Delta. Most of these use generic bearings but the other parts are proprietary and may still be available from a Delta dealer. Good Luck!
