Chainsaw about 14 months old, cut up approx 6 6x4 trailer loads. Started smokingslightly during use, I wrongly assumed oil in petrol mix. But the chainbrake gripped clutch enough to partly melt plastic housing. I've removed burnt pieces but c/brake still applies too much pressure onto drive. How does one slacken off c/brake steel belt. I'm not sure how to remove c/brake handle to get at fitting. The pin&clip ok,but the large fastner?

Thanks for the assist. Its fixed, I reduced the size of the chain brake housing therefore increasing its overall length by 1mm, still brakes, and runs more freely...ck

for your info. About 30 years ago I was convinced that Homelite was the only chainsaw in the world. About six years ago, I went back to my old Homelite dealer to buy another one. He had quit Homelite and was selling Stihl. I asked him why and he said that Homelite restructured, was bought out or something. Anyway, he said that in the last ten years Homelite only built their saws to sell, meaning tear up quickly and sell the customer a new one. I bought a stihl and have been very happy with it. Just thought I would pass the info on.

Agree. Thirty-forty years ago Homelite and McCulloch were the best saw names in the world. I have had both but was partial to McCulloch. No more. In the span of 20-30 years those two big companies went from top-of-the-line to bottom-of-the-line. I know of no dealer in my area that even bothers with those names anymore. They seem to have been relegated to the Wal-Marts of the world. No parts and no service. I hate to see good American names go downhill like that.

Stihl and Husky are the big names now. Neither is American made. I had a difficult time deciding between the two last year when I purchased a replacement saw. They both seem to have an excellent saw lineup. I finally decided on a Stihl and have had very good luck with it so far. It starts easy too!
