I recently acquired three old engines out of my grandfathers barn....one was a 1 1/2 hp LA w/ a low serial #, the second was an open crank Fairbanks Morse, about a 3hp I think, and the third was a Friend engine. My grandfather had an orchard and I was told he used this engine in conjunction w/ a sprayer.. the remnants of a wooden spray tank are behind the shed on a steel running gear.. no sign of a pump anywhere. The first two are complete and free, in fact, I have the LA running.. the FM needs a new rocker arm, which I have as yet been unable to locate. The Friend is missing the mag, but it is not stuck. The gas tank does not appear to be original, but the brackets do. ANY information would be beneficial at this point. I can send pictures if needed ...(not sure just what i'm gonna do with this thing..got enough projects on the bench as it is.)

The Friend usually had an intrigral piston pump somewhat build onto the engine. and were very common on sprayers maybe even exclusive to sprayers. the pumps could be removed and the engine use for more conventional purposes. i have a 5 hp friend with attached pump, it seems to have a little of orginal silver paint on it. i had a web page that had a little info on the friends but i think it was lost in a crash. you might try smokstak.com and do a search...you should be able to find parts you need there also.

i check in every once in a while. i've got a lot going on right now. but hopefully next week i'll look around on my other computers and try to find the web page that has some information on the friend sprayer company. i'm working on two other engines right now. but will start working on the friend next. maybe we can compare woes.
