Hi all, I have a 2 cyl Briggs 18 HP off riding mower.I t has a worn plastic gear on oil slinger and 1 wing broken off it. Do I need to pull the crank to get at it ? If I do what do I watch for when I pull the crank not to disturb timing? or is there some marks on the gears that I line up again when I replace the crank? Thanks for help, Jim

Marks on the crank and cam gear to line up. Is this a flat twin or a V-twin?. I do not remember on a flat twin but I do not think you need to pull the crank. You need to pull the cover plate and go from there.

Kent This motor is flat, horizontally opposed. I believe I will leave the fly wheel end intact and just undo the base of the motor and lift it up,the slinger assembly looks like it will stay in the base. Thanks Jim

When reassembling the parts, use some heavy wheel bearing grease to hold things in alinement inside the engine. It will dissolve in the oil when you put it in.
