Is there any reason that I can't use a electric fuel pump instead of a mechanical pump that is original equipment stile?

All the Wisconsin engines that offered fuel pumps used a slightly different carb than the gravity-feed version. If yours had a fuel pump originally, it should be fine with an electric pump. As noted above, get the lowest pressure on or use a valve to control pressure (most automotive pumps will have higher pressure). A pump for an Atomic 4 boat motor (very common from 1948 until 1974) would be a good choice.

Aloha, I forgot to say that if this is for a riding vehicle, I would include a safety switch that cuts off if the vehicle turns over. If a fire starts, the pump will keep pumping if the ignition is on. As a matter of fact, anything powered by an electric fuel pump, should have some kind of safety cut off switch.

I have used electric fuel pumps on many size Wisc engines, sure alot cheaper than Wisc pumps. I buy them at NAPA and get the lowest pressure ones.Good Luck

Aloha, As long as there is a float, needle valve and seat,(assuming this is a carburetor)I see no problem except that you will have to be sure that the electric fuel pump outlet pressure is not greater than the mechanical pump pressure. If the pressure is too great, it can overcome the float and needle valve, causing excessive fuel to enter the cylinder.
