can some one tell me what the minimum compression that will run this engine should be?

Don't forget that compression also varies with altitude.....

I used to work for a Wisconsin distributor.

From memory most Wisconsin engines seriously loose power below 100 psi and get very hard to start below 70 psi.

I bought a genuine Wisconsin service manual to get this exact information. As I remember it, the book said something to the effect of: "Due to the variables encountered in engine usage and wear, an exact number would not help. Be sure it has sufficient compression to produce the power needed." So much for OEM information. I'm looking forward to anyone's answer.

Most compression tests on multiple cylinder engines are figured at a free cranking speed with a electric starter in good shape spinning the engine over with other spark plugs removed. How would one know how fast to turn the engine with just one cylinder and hand crank for an efficient test is what I'm getting at? Wonder what they do on the new Wisconsins? www.wisconinmotors.com

It makes no mention of a compression test in I&T manual on T series engines. I&T Large Air Cooled Engines 1988 & prior service manual LES1-4. Intertec books dot com. Other manuals: www.continentalengines.com and www.wisconsinmotors.com
