I am trying to get the engine started. It has a hand crank and a magnito. I have removed the two spark plugs and layed them on the head with the wires attached. When I turn the crank both plugs fire with each click of the mag. Is that supposed to happen? Or are they supposed to fire independantly? and if independantly what could cause the problem and what do I do to fix it?

The Wico and FM mags for the THD, TH, TF, & TE engines fired simultaneously. The coil has 2 output buttons on it. The TJD, VD, and VE engines used Wico or FM mags with dist. rotor and dist. cap to fire alternately.

The Lucas magneto that fits the THD also has a distributor built in.

The Fairbanks Morse magneto fitted to the THD fires both spark plugs at the top of the stroke. As one Cylinder is at the top of the exhaust stroke when the other is charged with fuel this does not have any detrimental effect on the engine performance.

On rethinking this reply I may have the mag make wrong. It maybe the Wico mag that fires both plugs every revolution of the engine. No Matter � there is a mag on the THD that does what you describe.
