carb governer and pops throught the muffler

The governer on an 8hp Tecumseh keeps going back and fort at all speeds and it pops or snaps throught the muffler what can I do with these problems

back firing, all most always is a lean condition. check the idle circuit, as the engine runs on it most of the time.

Also, the fuel tank must be vented thru the cap.
Sometimes the cap is plugged.

Check out the "technical forum" at the site linked below. There are several Tecumseh experts there who can give detailed intructions as to how to thoroughly clean the carburetor. Worst case, though, some clogged Tecumseh carbs simply need to be replaced.

Hunting govener on a Tecumseh engine is almost alway a plugged idle mixture circuit in the carb. They can be VERY hard to clean as the hole through which the idle fuel flows is VERY small.

Aloha, I would check if it is getting enough fuel (filter?) or it could be the carb (main Jet dirty or needs adjustment?). Was it running ok before it started to act up (just getting it out of storage?)or did it suddenly start acting up while running ok.
