i just picked up a welder with a continental red seal F163.it spins over fine but is getting no fire from the coil.I have 12v going into the pos.side and 12v coming out the neg. side going to the points.this is a head mounted distributor.also this coil is brand new i just put it on cause the old one i thought was the problem.does this coil take the place of a magneto setup? need help getting fire thanks by the way the motor is a 1969

Put a test light on the side of the coil connected to the points, and verify that it flashes on and off, as the points open and close with the engine cranking over.

Well the condenser has to be good too or it wont fire the coil.If you don't have the right amount of resitance in the system you will overheat the coil and burnout condensers often.So you need a reister in your wire or a coil with a built in one.
