Why do the pistons have a slot cut in them ? The one I just took apart had the slot pointing up with the 'front' arrow pointing to the rear of the motor. My repair manual does not cover this and says the flywheel side is considered the front of the motor. I am ready to assemble and if the pistons were 180 out I don't want to put them back in that way. Any help would be appreciated, Tom/Idaho

the slots go away from the thrust side you will have 2 up and 2 down when installed correct on a v4 wisconsin

The slots are to allow for thermal expansion in the HOT engine, and are cut in the lightest-loaded side of the piston. That's why they are to be installed per manufacturer's instructions.
