I built a log splitter and used a wisconsin motor I bought from a guy. He had no clue as to how many horsepower it might be. I took these numbers off it model ak,serial 5392691, 2-7/8X2-3/4. Someone told me they thought there was a formula to use the last numbers to figure out the horsepower.Anybody have any thoughts on this. Any info would be appreciated.

Mike; Sounds like you have an eight hp. engine. We had two Bolens Husky garden tractors, one with an ABN, and one with AKN engine. They were almost identical except I believe the carbs were different. Big Ray

I too have a log splitter, but have been told it was a Wisconsin engine on it.
Cannot find a mfgr's tag on the unit.
I have digital pictures, I can send if you can help me identify the motor and carbutor if possible.
Is Wisconsin engine still in business and if so do you have address, phone number, web site anything that I can contact them with
Thank you

Norm I would really like to see those pictures if you could figure a way to post them. I am not that great with a computer. If you would read the posting from Benj J Joe Browning answering me. That number is to continental engines who bought out wisconsin engines. I found Hike to be really helpful. Good luck, let me know what you find out.

Zira I almost beleive their is a another letter. Either a letter or a scratch. It is hooked directly to the pump. The pump is rated at 12gpm but the cyclinder seems slow and not a lot of a power. I thought it would be plenty of engine if you look at the size of the motor you would think it was at least 10 horse.

But if it is an AKN, it is 6.2. How is it connected to the motor - belted, direct-coupled?

Hello Mike, I do not know about the last two numbers and how they relate to horsepower. Your easiest way is to call the factory at 800-922-5632. Ext #6. Ask for Hike. He is very good at "ID"ing engines. Also at getting all the spec's for your engine. Hope this helps, Joe

I got a hold of hike to day he said he was pretty sure it was a 6.2 horsepower motor. Thanks much for the info.
