This is a tough, almost impossible to anwser question, especially without knowing the condition. I have seen them from 50 bucks to 1500, I don't know how many of them sold for these prices but my point is they vary greatly.
Condition is everything, it is not rare to have an old engine that is worn out or stuck, It is rare to have one that is nice unrestored and runs good.
Must ask.
1.Is it all there ?
2.Is it frozen up (stuck) ?
3.Any cracked castings or parts that have been welded up before ?
4.Does it run ?
5.Have good compression ?
6.Spark ?
7.Has it been restored ?These are just the basics. Alot of variables, but if it is all there and not broken, frozen, or repaired badly, it would be worth at least 300 if not more. Two things going against the value is that fairbanks is not a rare brand of engine, and being throttle governed, (a hit and miss type engine will bring more money than a throttle governed) Best quality in this engine is the size large enough to be nice, but not so big as to be a real pain to move around. I would love to have one myself in that size, I currently have a 1-1/2 and a 2HP fairbanks, so a larger one would be nice. If the man feels comfortable with selling it at that price it is most likely fair. (just wished I lived closer) Most common reply would be "whatever you can get for it". E-bay is often a great indicator of price, but even it has faults. Just my 2 cents Thanks for the space
