I was given a generator set with a Wisconsin engine and am having trouble figuring out what I have. I cannot find any numbers on the engine and there are no decals visible except for part of the Wisconsin decal on the flywheel cover. The whole genset is painted orange (looks "factory")and is on a 2 wheel frame with a drawbar.

The engine is 1 cyl, pull start, and has an oil bath air filter. The carb is an updraft bendix.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mike

I think you might find number stamped on a smooth spot under the sheet metal.

Ah ha! I think I found it. Unfortunately it is behind the fan shroud so I can't read it yet. I'll have to pull the pull start pulley and the flywheel to get the shroud off, then I should be in business. Thanks for your help.

Hello Mike, The casting number should be somewhere on the side of the block. If, for any reason, Steve in Maine can not get the type of engine. You can call the factory @800-922-5632 X#6 Ask for Hike. Also once you "ID" your engine, get a older manual off Ebay. Enter Wisconsin Engine. Hope this Helps, Joe

If you can get me the casting number on the block, I can tell you what model it is.

It should be raised letters on block

Thanks for the help, I have been all over the block without removing anything but paint and can't find any numbers. The next step will be to remove shrouds and covers and see if I can find anything. Unfortunately, the ID plate has been removed from the fan shroud. I may have to do some engine dissasembly to find out what I have.

Well, can you find any numbers on the magneto, carb, air cleaner mounting tube? If you need to pull the head off, that casting number is defeinitive on most models. If you e-mail a pic off-line I can probably get you started.
