Hi! I just wanted to say Thanks to all for your input and suggestions. I got it fixed!!! The motor was out of time. I got the book out and studied it a little. I hope I don't have to do this again for awhile. It's a real pain in the---- to set the points and time the engine. the engine timing all boils down to what the point gap is. It's set at .20 and you set the gap a little wide to advance, and a little narrow to retard. Strange... I've never seen anything like this before. Anywho, it runs like a top again and the exhaust doesn't glow anymore!!! Thanks Fellas! Merry Christmas! Joe...

Point gap spacing has been the accepted way of timing small engines for many years, most of them have no other easy method for changing it. It will also affect the timing on any engine that has a point style ignition, except that on large multi- cylinder engines they refer to it as the dwell angle.
