Wisconsin VF4 connecting rods

Looking for a set of connecting rods for this engine. VE4 rods will also work. The crankshaft has been ground 0.020 under, so the babbit lined rods (part # DA-51B-S20), or the shell bearing type (part # DA-51-C) will work.

i can metal your rods here in australia if thats any help have just done a set for myself i am looking for a set of +30 or bigger pistons any ideas

Oldtime, If you were closer to Baltimore, MD, I'd definitely send these parts to you. Could you provide a brief description of the re-metaling process? I've heard people talk about "pouring babbit", but have no idea how it is done. These rods have three bearing surfaces - the crankpin + two side or thrust surfaces. The crankpin clearance is 0.0007 - 0.0020", side clearance is 0.009 - 0.018". I'm trying to visualize how the alignments and clearances are maintained while the new bearing material is poured.

I might want to try this.....

this is a big job to describe so here goes 1 measure old oil grooves 2 melt old metal from rod 3 tin with solder surfaces you want to metal a big soldering iron can sometimes be pressed into service for this step 4you need a manderal to take up the centre where the crank goes i use one about .40 smaller than crank 5 melt new metal in pot heat untill a piece of news paper turns brown when diped in metal heat rod and manderal pour metal into rod work with wire to remove air pocketts 6 mount rod in mill bore rod with boreing head machine oil groves new rod hay presto good as new .this is a very simple description

Oldtime, maybe this is something I would like to try. Do you have any pictures of the "pouring mandrel" and the setup on the milling machine? These rods have about 1/8" of shims on each side. The bulk of the shims have been brazed together, and the rest are loose. How do you keep the bearing material from working its way around the shims?
