ON/OFF switch for tecumseh motor

I have an old TORO Snow blower and the on/off key is broken

When I inspected the wires, I noticed that there is a green wire from the engine and a black wire from the fly wheel assembly

My understanding is that the switch must function as follows:

When the key is in the OFF position the green and black are connected (switch is closed)

When the switch is in the ON position the green and black are not connected (switch is open)

I replaced the switch and the green and black wires are always connected (ie switch is closed) regardless of the position of the key ON or OFF

I tested the switch with a meter and the switch is working properly

Please advise what to do

toro parts are still available> the switch is designed to ground out the mag to the engine block> to stop the engine> any push button switch would work>

You have the wrong switch. There are may switch designs in the Lawn and garden world. You will have to find the right one.
