Super Trapp Mufflers for small engines

Hi, I was looking at some ads for Super Trapp mufflers for small engines. They make them for
motorcycles, ATVs, rice-rockets and small engines. I was thinking about putting one on a rather loud 18HP Briggs Twin. Anybody tried them and satisfied that they can reduce exhaust noise from a small
engine? Since they make them for up to 100HP, you could probably fit one to a tractor.

I had one on my '88 Suzuki 230 Quadsport, and loved it, but "muffler" might have been an overly optimistic description.... On the other hand, it definitely worked as advertised--depending on the number of disks you put in, you could move your powerband up or down the rev range to suit your riding preferences. Depending on your application (stationary or mobile) there are probably other ways to quiet the engine down. Specifically, if it's stationary (permanently mounted generator, for instance) the best way I've seen is to bury a 55-gallon drum and run your exhaust into that. I've seen this setup at hunting camps, and you could hear the valves clicking, the chain whirring, and very little else.

I saw a post on another small engine board a while back about oversize mufflers for generators. It was mentioned that much of the noise from an air cooled engine is the valve train, cooling fan, etc. and that specialty mufflers would help, but don't expect a big improvement. Nice thing about the super trap is you can change the number of diffusers and possibly tune it for your particular situation.

In looking for a muffler for my generator I came accross a web site that might help, they had a variety of Supertrapps and accessories for small engines. jackssmallengines.com is the address. They also sell resonators to help quiet this muffler.
