In need of a Wisconsin VF4, tapered shaft, used in a Bobcat 600. I have a blown one, and looking for a second for 1 out of 2, or a fair running engine/replacement. Thanks.

The tapered crankshaft makes this a pretty special application. One possibility is to look at engines used for direct-drive applications, such as pumps, compressors, and generators. They may have used the same type of crankshaft. If you can't locate one of the tapered cranks, you might consider modifying a crank with a straight end, which are more common.

A reasonably skilled person on a lathe could take a crank with a straight shaft and cut the taper, trim to length, and drill and tap for the retainer bolt. The keyway could be cut on a milling machine.

When I rebuilt my 600, I noticed that the taper on the pulley end was the same as the taper on the flywheel end. If your orginal crankshaft is missing or severely damaged, this would be a good reference for the machinist.

A good start
But Be sure when you reassemble the engine
with your re-ground crank or factory replacement
That You Use The Proper Hardened Gears, or the engine will chew up the soft factory gears.
Been There Done That..

Could anyone describe what gears John was talking about.I am in the process of having a VH4D crank turned down to replace a VF4D tapered crank and do not want any surprises.
