Hi! Well,I had a good day/ bad day today.I went rummaging around my father-in law's sawmill junkyard, BEHOLD! What have we here?? I found the clutch he said he had out theresomewhere buried amoungst the scrap pile!!! He said I could have it, so home I went to get it all cleaned up. got that done and took it down to the other shed to put it on the engine only to discover it doesn't fit!!! ##@$**&%#!! The only tag that is on the clutch only tells to remove top cover to fill with oil. Also the cranckcase doesn't have the holes drilled to bolt it up and my output shaft on the engine is about 2" too long! my engine shaft is 1-7/16"X 4-1/4 the numbers cast into the housing on the clutch read BG-230 ???? He had this clutch on a WI engine what I thoght to be the same as mine. A model TFD, It supplied power to the edger in his mill. If anyone can help with this I would be most GREATFUL!!! Someone please tell me STOP , before Icut the shaft off and drill and tap some holes.. I would also like to THANK EVERYBODY for having patience with me... joe

yeah, the engine PTO shaft is shorter on the clutch engines and the Key, at least on mine is narrower. also the seal on the engines PTO shaft is installed backwards because of the higher oil level in the clutch, at least on my engine its done like that..

I to am putting a clutch on a non clutch engine, I to have to drill and tap the holes in the non clutch engines block to accept the clutch housing, no big deal tho when you have a bridgeport mill :-) mock fit the clutch housing over the front main bearing plate to make sure it does not bottom out, i have noticed that some of the non clutch engines have an arrow and *TOP* cast on it, I am not sure if this will interfear, but my junked clutch engine does not have this cast into it...

as for the crank, use a clutched engines crank or machine the crank you have to the right length, if you need measurements i can give them to you. also you will need to drill a small hole in the crank for the set screw, because the key on a non clutch engine crank is bigger you may need to buy a special key through a suplier like Mcmaster Carr

I hope this helps...

The clutch you have with housing casting number BG230 fit quite a few 1 and 2 cyl engines. The only differance I could find is that the take off shaft is differant for each engine application. Let me know what engine it came off from and what engine you are going to put it on. Also you'll have to find out if your crankshaft is correct length to bolt the clutch assembley onto. Engines with clutches have a lot shorter shaft coming out back of engine than if you were to use a pulley on back of engine. Good Luck
