Wisconsin engine clutch wanted

Hi Everybody ! I have a WI 2cyl I believe modelTFD?(that's what the tag says). I was wondering if anyone would have info or know the whereabouts of a clutch that looks like a smaal car tranny with a lever on it that engages and releases it. I would like to rig this motor up to my hammermill, thus I can put the loader back on my tractor and not have to use the belt when I grind feed. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!THANX...

that engine was built to run at 3600 rpm all the time engine only gets full hp at 3600

So if the engine runs constant @ 3600 rpm then I would be running the mill way too fast?? or could I idle it down so that it would reach full power when i put a load on it????? joe

Joe, I've got one that I'd probably be willing to part with, but not sure if it would suit your needs. It's a combination clutch/gear reduction unit, and I believe the reduction is 6:1. I suppose if your hammermill originally had a 540 PTO input, then this would probably work, as you could get 540 output by running the engine at 3240 RPM, although that might be a bit fast for a Wisconsin twin. I'll look it over next time I'm in the shop and get you more specifics.

Thanx BOB,but i'm not sure it will work either?. I believe my WI engine rpm to max out at 3600, Inow run the mill using a 6" wide flat belt powered by my wd45. I'm not sure of how fast the belt pulley is running but it seems like it's more than 540rpm, I'm guessing 1000. when I grind ear corn I have the throttle set on the tractor about a third of the toward full. I agree with you that running a 6:1 reducer would really tax that engine, I was hoping to run the engine and mill at say the 1000 and then have the governor on the motor kick in when i start grinding?? Comments??? joe..

most tractors PTO speed is 540. & most implements set up to run from a pto run at that speed. Some tractors have a second pto with usually fine splines. these run around 1000

Hi! my hammermill is set up to run with a flat belt driven from a tractor or staionary engine, thus the rpm will ibelieve will be more than 540? I had an old rpm gage that i used to set cyl speed on my combine ,but it broke.what i want to do is eliminate the belt drive altogether without running it so fast that it self destructs.Bob said he might have a clutch with a reduction drive that might work. I then might have to take the flat belt pulley off the mill and gear it up using roller chian and sprockets.any ideas????? joe

the speed of the belt pully on the WC is the same as the engine I think? You can easy check this yourself,rated engine speed of a WC is 1500 so figure your pully speed and then the differance in size of the hammermill pully.Finnally you could get a speed for the hammermill.Then figureing what the engine needs should be easy.Or you could post the make and model of the mill and soneone could tell you what speed to run.

Here's where I'm at.I called Gehl today and they told me that the correct rpm for the hammermill is 2400 rpm. The Wi engine runs at3600 rpm. Ihave alead on a 1:1 rockford clutch for this engine.So I want to use V belts to power this from the engine.What size should the drive pulleys be for the mill and the engine? To get the right rpm's for the mill?? Thanx.. joe

Joe.... A 4 inch pulley at 3600 RPM on your driving motor, and a 6 inch pulley on your mill will give your mill 2400 RPM. Or a 3 inch pulley and a 4.5 inch pulley on your mill. Or a 5 inch pulley and a 7.5 inch pulley on your mill.
