I have a 2 1/2 hp Rock Island with a slightly bent crankshaft. Has anyone tried to straighten a crankshaft without removing it from the engine. What is the best way to do it?

I have straightened several cranks by chucking up the shaft in a lathe and turning it by hand while holding the motor in one position. The motor will wobble as the lathe is turned and hou can tell which way it needs to be bent to straighten the shaft. I used a 3 or 4 foot length of 2x4 and prized the motor as needed to straighten the bend. After each "prize", turn the shaft to check for straightness. Worked for me.

Yes Don, that was me. I will try their method of straightening as soon as I get a chance.
