I own my great grandfathers 6 hp Witte headless engine. The name plate was used for target practice but the serial number, #2293, appears to be complete. The serial numbers listed on the web start at 5000+ for this type of engine. I have a payment stub dated to February of 1914 for a Witte engine and it states 1 of 4 payments for $15 which would mean the engine cost $60 new. I'm not sure this is the payment stub for this engine as he had another engine he used in a boat. So, could this serial number pertain to an earlier engine? Does $60 seem right for the cost?
If I added a 2 to the serial number, which would make it #22293, then the web serial numbers would indicate it is a 1915 engine which is about the right time period.

I have a 6 hsp Witte built in 1929 according to the serial number. How/where can I find info pertaining to parts and also paint colors? Thanks
