Engine on trencher Turns over, fires once or twice but weak.
Acts as if out of time.
Carb cleaned - What is initial setting of bottom screw and top diagonal screw?
Ignition unit removed previous by someone else - I set points to .012 after cleaning. Produces good spark. Installed with dot on main gear aligned with line on ignition module gear. Appears to be another small white dot on main gear several teeth away.

ANY SUGGESTIONS TO GETY THIS ENGINE FIRING AND RUNNING ?? I have 300' of trench to dig to 5' and don't look forward to the shovel method!

Thanks!!!!

I assume yours has a magneto. If it is a battery ignition e-mail me. Pull the spark plug & turn the flywheel over slowly by hand, make sure the magneto impulse snaps when the marked fin on the flywheel is straight up (visible through small hole in the shroud). Fin is marked on the flywheel casting by letters "DC" or something. If not, you have something timed wrong. I don't have my manual here but if you need it I can scan the appropriate section & e-mail it to you.

On the carb, I think the main jet (bottom) starts at 1-1/2 turns (if adjustable, some were not) and the idle mixture at ~3/4 turn.

Is compression okay? It should feel pretty strong when you turn it over by hand. If not, pull the head, clean the carbon out, check valves, etc. If compression is good & timing is good, try pouring 1 teasponn-full of gas into the spark plug hole, it should run 2-3 seconds that way. If it does, check the carb/fuel system, if not clean & regap points again, then try replacing condensor.

Let me know if I can help.

David
