Don't know where else to post this so here goes.
I have a 20 hp Kohler engine on my mower. How do I test the charging system. I get 12v with the engine running at the battery. Shouldn't it be 13 or so volts? Where do I go from here, Do I remove the flywheel and start checking or what?
This is serious, I can hear my grass growing.
Thanks for any help....Leon

Couple of things to check first. What is battery voltage before you start the engine. If you have a very good battery, and the engine starts easy, there will not be much drain on the battery so it will not be much to recharge. The charging system should put back at least 1/2 volt more than base voltage in the battery. This could be anywhere from 12 volts to 13.5 to 14 volts. Also, do you have lights on the mower. If so, turn them on when the engine is running, and check the voltage. If the voltage drops below 12 volts, then you will have the check further. I would start checking by following the wires back to where they start. Might be a electrical part that regulates the voltage that is bad.

Hopes this helps.
