I would like to find out more about these engines. I have a JD Model LA which, I have been told, uses a similar type of engine. They were used on combines and maybe other implements. any information at all would be nice.

I have a JD L-had a shot engine-bought a LUC power unit with low hours-bored my L block to 3 1/2" and used every single part of that LUC engine in my L block! Even the valves and guides. My L technically now has an LA engine but the block has the correct number and the rebore only cost me $47 and the engine unit $100. I got lucky getting such a good used unit but it was about time too! Good Luck.

I have one too. I need the torque specs on the main and rod bearings. I picked you because you said that you have rebored it. I did too, .20 oversize because I left the water in it over the winter last year, and when I went to crank it, I seazed, so I got new pistons and gasket set and now all I have to do is torque the bearings down now to finish it off. It is my first real engine rebuild, so I am having fun doing this. If you have any helpful hints in rebuilding, I will trade them with you :)
thankx alot :)

I have a friend who is trying to find pistons for a LUC engine... I have a luc engine on a wood splitter..the engine came from a combine..I use the auger unloader output shaft to drive the hydraulic pump..and have bolted a chevy flex plate to the pulley and added a chevy starter so I have electric start..the pulley will drive a buzz saw.

Pete,
I have a JD LA also. Yes it uses the same basic engine as the LU,LUC, and LUS. The LU is just basically the LA engine and hood combination on a metal box frame. The LUC uses a different hood, grill, air cleaner, fuel tank, and exaust stack, and radiator. It also had a gearbox mounted to power the combine. I believe the LUS was special made for a corn sheller, not sure though.I purchased a LUC engine to use on my '44 LA, and do expect to do some slight modifications to the hood. E-mail for more info.
I do have the parts breakdown manual for these.
Pat
